ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND APPLICATION GUIDELINES

MAXIMUM GRANT NONPROFIT
ELIGIBILITY FOR NONPROFIT
- Must prove physical location or address in Talbot County.
- Must have been in operation since January 2020.
- Must submit proof of nonprofit status. Any of the following is acceptable evidence of nonprofit status:
(a) a reference to the applicant organization’s listing in the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) most recent list of tax-exempt organizations described in section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code;
(b) a copy of a currently valid IRS tax exemption certificate;
(c) a statement from a State taxing body, State Attorney General, or other appropriate State Official certifying that the applicant organization has a nonprofit status and that none of the net earnings accrue to any private shareholders or individuals;
(d) a certified copy of the organization’s certificate of incorporation or similar document that clearly establishes nonprofit status;
(e) any of the above proof for a State or national parent organization and a statement signed by the parent organization that the applicant organization is a local nonprofit affiliate.
- Must be in good standing with the State of Maryland.
- Funds must be used for expenses that have not already been supported by COVID-19 relief or other funding.
- Priority will be given to those nonprofits focused on the economic recovery of Maryland communities and on the health and human services and housing of underserved Maryland populations.
- Priority will be given to those nonprofits that have not yet received grants from other sources.
- Program development and training costs.
- Business materials or inventory.
- Purchase of equipment related to programs that assist underserved Maryland populations.
- Expenses that occur in the ordinary course of business such as rent or mortgage payments, utilities, and payroll.
- Applications will be accepted by the Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, 11 S. Harrison Street, Easton, MD 21601.
- Completed forms may be submitted online, by mail, and in person.
- Applications will be reviewed and ranked by Talbot County government officials.
- Completed application form.
- Detailed explanation of how the funds will be used, including a line-item budget for proposed expenditures.
- Invoice(s) and proof of payment (cancelled check, bank statement, or credit card statement) for qualifying expenditures.
- Financial information
- Copy of IRS Form 990
- W-9 IRS Form
- Certification under penalty that all information is correct.
- No final report is required. Invoices and proof of payment must be submitted before grant funds are distributed unless otherwise agreed upon by applicant and granting organization.
- All grant documents are subject to audit.
