President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Tom Barkin will headline the 18th Talbot County Business Appreciation Summit on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
The Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism hosts the summit in partnership with the Talbot County Economic Development Commission. The annual event’s Community Impact Awards celebrate the local business community and honor businesses, projects, and individuals who have made a significant impact in the community. Nearly 200 business, government, and civic leaders will attend.
“The summit celebrates the strength and resilience of Talbot County’s business community and the people who drive our local economy,” said Cassandra Vanhooser, director of Talbot County Economic Development and Tourism.
“This year’s event is particularly calendar-worthy with Tom Barkin as our keynote speaker,” she said. “He brings valuable insights for businesses of all sizes and is widely recognized as an engaging and thoughtful voice on economic issues.”
Barkin joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond as president and CEO in 2018 and is known for his engagement in the bank’s Fifth District, which covers Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
He serves on the Federal Reserve’s chief monetary policy body and the Federal Open Market Committee, and is responsible for the Richmond Fed’s bank supervision and the Federal Reserve’s technology organization.
Prior to joining the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Barkin was a senior partner and CFO at the worldwide management consulting firm, McKinsey & Company, where he also oversaw McKinsey’s offices in the southern United States. He earned his bachelor’s, MBA, and law degrees from Harvard University.
“Meeting with local business and community leaders is a crucial part of my role as I seek to understand the ever-changing national and regional economies,” Barkin said. “I will share some insights in my remarks, but I hope to hear and learn even more.”
The breakfast and awards presentation begin at 8 a.m. at the Tidewater Inn’s Gold Ballroom. Seating is limited, with tickets at $45 per person and advance purchase required here.
